Lines

(100 words)

They search out the lines which would separate us.

They peer and prod, always hunting for the seam which opens into an empty space, a divide. They quickly point out inconsequential differences, and stay busy defining the lines of separation, regardless how subtle those lines might be.

They are suspicious, judgmental, and more than a little fearful of diversity. Theirs is a world of uniformity—a world of predictability. Their arguments offer only their deep-rooted cynicism, and go far to rationalize and finance a self-serving interpretation of reality.

Their focus is to the rear, and their eyes on the ground.
